Frappe v15.122.0 and v16: Login Change for ERPGulf Mobile Apps

If your mobile app users suddenly see "Invalid credentials" after a Frappe update, even with the correct password, you're not alone. A recent change in Frappe affects how mobile apps log users in.

The short answer: we've updated the backend for all ERPGulf mobile apps. Users don't need to change anything on their phones. When you upgrade Frappe, update the ERPGulf backend app on your server at the same time.

What changed in Frappe

Frappe v15.122.0 and current v16 releases removed support for the OAuth "password grant". This was a common way for mobile apps to exchange a username and password for an access token.

After the update, Frappe rejects these requests for every user, whether or not the password is correct. The app then shows a login error such as "Invalid credentials given". Nothing is wrong with the user's account or password.

The change is deliberate on Frappe's side, so it won't be reversed. Apps that relied on the password grant need a different way to issue tokens.

What we've done

We've checked and updated the backend apps behind all ERPGulf mobile apps, including the Employee App and the Customer App. They now verify the user's credentials and issue the login token directly on the server, without using Frappe's password grant.

- Works on any Frappe version. The updated backend runs on Frappe versions both before and after this change, so you can update it before you upgrade Frappe.
- No change to the mobile apps. Login screens, requests and responses stay the same. Users don't need to update or reinstall anything.
- Existing sessions keep working. Tokens issued before the update can still be refreshed after it.

What you need to do

Whenever you upgrade Frappe, update the ERPGulf backend app (for example, `employee_app`) on your server at the same time. Ideally, update the backend app first, since it works on both the old and the new Frappe.

If you manage your own server, the update looks like this:

cd /path/to/frappe-bench
bench update --apps employee_app
bench --site <your-site> migrate
bench restart

If ERPGulf manages your server, our team will take care of this for you as part of your Frappe upgrade.
